The decision came after an NLF meeting regarding how to boost the Fair Transport Scheme.
One of the suggestions was to get more hauliers on board by making the scheme accessible to non-NLF members. The motion to open up Fair Transport was passed by 16 votes to 4.
Commenting on the move, NLF marketing director Kjell Olafsrud said:
“As long as it is only for NLF members, no one will include Fair Transport as a requirement during their tender rounds, even if they make demands for many of the same criteria. Sweden has opened up to non-members, and now we want the same in Norway, but with specific criteria.”
The NLF nonetheless adds that those seeking to become Fair Transport members from outwith the NLF will have to pay extra.
Speaking on behalf of the board following the vote, NLF representative Kjell Haugland said that there are not enough business enquiries about Fair Transport certification. It is thus hoped that the change can allow in more members and increase awareness of what Fair Transport is all about.
