Wärtsilä will provide its EnergyFlow technology and Fixed Pitch Propellers (FPP) for three Pure Car/Truck Carrier (PCTC) vessels operated by Sallaum Lines, a global RoRo freight operator.

The combination of these upgrade methods is expected to enhance the propulsion efficiency of current vessels, lowering fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.

Wärtsilä booked the order in the fourth quarter of 2024.

Sallaum Lines chose Wärtsilä solutions for reducing environmental impact throughout their fleet.

The Finnish company noted that the project was designed for these specific vessels to find the best options for long-term sustainability.

Puneet Arora, Head of Technical – Sallaum Lines, said: “Wärtsilä’s Decarbonisation Programme has greatly helped us as we strive to minimise the environmental impact of our operations. By adding the Wärtsilä innovations to these three vessels, we are taking an important step forward towards meeting our sustainability goals.”

Wärtsilä FPPs are intended to provide maximum performance and efficiency while reducing noise and vibration levels.

Wärtsilä EnergoFlow is a pre-swirl stator that generates an ideal inflow for the propeller, lowering fuel consumption and emissions under all operating situations.

These solutions will be installed on three vessels: the ‘Silver Queen’, the ‘Silver Moon’, and the ‘Silver Sky’.

According to Wärtsilä, all 183-metre-long PCTCs are capable of transporting 4,900 vehicles. By improving the propulsion efficiency of these ships with these technologies, they will minimise emissions while also lowering operational expenses.

Rajan Khanna, Head of Sales for Middle East – Wärtsilä Marine, stated: “Our Decarbonisation Programme is designed to support owners and operators invest in the most appropriate solutions for their particular vessels.”

“With increasing pressure within the industry to decarbonise, we applaud Sallaum Lines for taking action to proactively implement solutions which will help them to maximise operational efficiency and minimise environmental impact of their vessels.”

In January, Wärtsilä announced that it would provide designed equipment for a new 120 megawatts (MW) power station being built in Kazakhstan.
