APM Terminals has recorded almost 4,000 vehicles processed through the Indian port of Pipavav for the month of May 2024, and the highest number of rail wagons handled at the port in a single month. The terminal processed 40 newly modified goods (NMG) rakes, up on its previous record of 30 in March 2024.

APM said using rail to move finished vehicles helped to lower congestion on India’s road network, benefiting both the environment and commuters.
APM Terminals Pipavav was the first to connect with India’s dedicated freight corridor and its annual vehicle processing stands at around 250,000 units.
This month the port exported its first volume of 1,600 F Maruti Suzuki Fronx SUVs to Japan. The Fronx is made at Maruti Suzuki’s Gujarat plant and was first launched on the Indian market in April 2023. That follows Honda Cars India exporting its Elevate mid-size SUV to Japan for the first time in April 2024 through the port.
According to data from the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (Siam) Maruti Suzuki India led market for vehicle exports out of the country between April and June 2024, with almost 70,000 units moved. Overall passenger vehicle exports for the quarter stood at around 180,500, an increase of 19% on the previous year.
