ECG publishes revised Electric Vehicle State of Charge table

ECG publishes revised Electric Vehicle State of Charge table

ECG — 2026-05-28

News from ECG

One of the issues repeatedly raised by members of the Quality Working Group’s meetings is the complexity of the vehicle handling requirements. Requirements regarding loose items, parking conditions, Electric vehicle charging differ between brands. This issue was also highlighted in the FVL industry survey which the ECG Tech Board conducted earlier this year, the detailed results of which were published in mid-May. 32% of LSP respondents stated that the complexity of vehicle handling has a high impact on their operations.

The charging requirements for Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) have already been the subject of a dedicated table compiling the charging specifications of all OEMs in the supply chain.

Following the first edition of the table in 2023 the OEM requirements were updated in 2025-26. In this new version, the charge levels tend to be lower that in the previous edition, with most of them falling below the maximum 50% threshold. This threshold is important because the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA) established it as the recommended maximum state of charge for BEVs transported on board vessels, due to safety considerations. Since the publication of the EMSA Guidance in 2022, all shipping line policies have been aligned with this maximum limit.

The assembled table on the OEM charging requirements is now available for download

Please note that this document is intended for awareness purposes only, as the reported requirements may change over time. Information provided directly by OEMs and shipping lines should always be considered authoritative. If you become aware of any changes, please inform ECG.
