News from Brussels
Four organizations ask the European Commission to put in place a methodology that will help achieve climate neutrality by 2050 and boost 'Made in EU' electric cars.
Consumer organisation BEUC, green groups T&E and DUH and the Mobility in Transition Institute argue in a joint letter that eco-scores are key to decarbonise the production of EVs and to support the industrial transition of the sector.
The organisations urge the new European Commission to prioritise the development of an eco-score methodology and include it in its work programme for 2025. Specifically, they recommend the following steps:
1. By 31 December 2025: Adopt delegated acts to establish a common methodology for the assessment and consistent reporting of the eco score for cars. This should include clear guidelines on how the score will be used.
2. By June 2026: Carmakers report on the eco scores using the developed methodology.
