Stellantis will allocate production of vehicles on its STLA Large platform to its factory in Cassino, southern Italy, CEO Carlos Tavares said on a visit to the plant.

The factory builds cars for the group’s premium brands, Maserati and Alfa Romeo. Stellantis said in a news release Thursday that the models on the new platform would be announced “at a later date.

STLA Large is a forthcoming “BEV-centric” platform that will underpin medium and large cars, including future Alfa Romeo models such as the next-generation Giulia midsize sedan and Stelvio midsize SUV, CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato told Automotive New Europe in an interview in 2022.

Stellantis has also announced that its factory in Windsor, Canada, will build vehicles on STLA Large.

The platform will underpin models with ranges of up to 800 km (500 miles), Stellantis has said.

STLA Large is part of a new family of vehicle architectures that include STLA Small, Medium and Frame (for pickups and other body-on-frame vehicles). The group is investing €30bn through 2025 in the transition to full electrification and the software-defined vehicles.

In addition to Maserati and Alfa Romeo, some future DS models are expected to be built on STLA Large. In North America, the production version of the Chrysler Airflow concept and future Dodge Challenger and Charger muscle cars will also use the platform, according to reports.

The Cassino factory, between Rome and Naples, builds the current Alfa Romeo Giulia and Stelvio and the Maserati Grecale.
