  5. Labels for Alternative Fuel...

In the beginning of 2020 a small group was created to develop labels for Alternative Fuel Vehicles (AFVs) for their visual identification in the supply chain. The group was initiated by Stellantis (PSA Groupe as was) which had already started using colour-coded stickers for some of its Electric Vehicles (EVs) in order to differentiate them easily from conventionally powered vehicles. The group was led by Katia Makarytcheva.

This group elaborated a recommendation to put coloured labels on the windscreens of AFVs where each colour corresponds to a certain powertrain (e.g. green for EV, blue for Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles, etc.). The purpose for such stickers was to help more easily identify non-conventional vehicles, in case of fire for instance. The label on the windscreen will also help to identify where these cars are located even when they are closely parked, e.g. on a ship’s deck. From a quality and safety point of view the members of the group agreed on the importance of the visual differentiation of AFVs, a view that is now also being independently raised by the maritime industry.
