  3. Briefing note on cabotage

ECG has prepared an informative and visual explanation on how cabotage operations work in the European Union currently and how they changed in 2022.

With the adoption of the Mobility Package the rules on cabotage changed on 21 February 2022 and there is be a “cooling off” period of 4 days during which the truck won’t be able to return to the same country to do cabotage operations again.

The Mobility Package also included amending the posting of workers directive. As of 2 February 2022 drivers engaged in cabotage operations are considered as “posted” and, among others, their social protection and the company’s administrative processes will be impacted. Soon ECG published information about the posting of workers here.
