ECG — 2026-07-14

News from ECG

The annual ECG-The European Association of Vehicle Logistics -report on the Top Ports in Europe for Cars has been released, and shows the ranking of the top 40 players in the sector. The report covers ports in the EU & UK & Türkiye to highlight the volumes of cars handled in 2025.

What stands out:

The Top 10 leading ports by volume of cars moved in 2025 continues to be led by the Belgian Port of Antwerp-Bruges, followed by Germany’s Bremerhaven and Emden, with Slovenia’s Port of Koper in fourth and Port of Barcelona in Spain at fifth. Competition amongst the top players is strong and regional competition is increasing.

Germany’s top ports for Ro-Ro activity in the new car sector have witnessed an overall decline, barring the Port of Rostock which has seen a solid 9% jump year on year.

In Italy while the large Port of Livorno still commands solid volumes, there is a dip compared to last year, but the Port of Monfalcone has witnessed a solid 18% jump in volumes.

The UK is seeing very strong growth across most of its ports with Bristol retaining its pole position with a 9% jump, while Southampton and Grimsby see double digit jumps and the Port of Liverpool, although low volumes, is seeing growth.

Spanish ports are competing with each other, with overall growth averaging out at 1% across the 8 main ports in Spain that operate in our sector. Port of Barcelona and Port of Vigo retain their top positions and both report growth year on year. Meanwhile the Port of Malaga has seen double digit growth.

Türkiye’s ports see solid growth, although internal shifting of volumes from Ford Otosan Yeniköy to the other ports means this port see’s a drop in its rankings, please refer to the special report on Türkiye for more on these ports.

Slovenia’s Port of Koper is expanding its facilities with volumes possibly targeting the 1-million-unit mark.

Meanwhile the Port of Constanta in Romania makes it into the Top Ports of Europe, with a special interview in the report. Portugal’s Port of Setúbal also features in the report with a solid 4% year on year jump in volume.

And a special mention to the IMEC project –The India Middle East Corridor –where the Port of Marseille Fos is leading the initiative to develop routes to avoid chokepoints. ECG Members can download the full report at the members’ portal.
