In the second of a three-part webinar series, IRU and POLIS brought together European leaders working to achieve carbon neutrality in road freight transport in and around cities. The group debated key issues on the complex road to 2050.
IRU and POLIS, working together on research and innovation projects to decarbonise road transport, have joined forces in a three-part webinar series to exchange perspectives between a wide range of people on the challenging path to net-zero emissions.
The second of the three events united leaders from Europe’s road freight industry and its cities and regions, all focused on enabling and encouraging zero-emission logistics in urban and peri-urban environments.
IRU outlined its clear call to action on how the road transport industry can become carbon neutral by 2050. Europe's transport sector must navigate through the complexities of reducing its carbon footprint in a pragmatic way, but the path to net-zero emissions is complex and needs a collaborative approach among a wide range of actors including regulators as well as the industry’s suppliers and users.
Key challenges debated in the webinar included the frictionless transport of goods, access to consumers, and the reduction of air and noise pollution.
The webinar also highlighted innovations from two EU-funded projects:
POLIS is the network of European cities and regions cooperating on innovative transport solutions.
The third seminar of the series, focused on energy infrastructure, will take place on 16 April from 15:00 to 16:00 CET.
