Low Carbon RoRo lines

Low Carbon RoRo lines

Louis Dreyfus Armateurs — 2025-02-07

Members Corner

Louis Dreyfus Armateurs is actively working on launching a future low-carbon RoRo line scheduled for 2027. This initiative aims to reduce CO2 emissions by 70% compared to current market solutions. This will be achieved through an innovative RoRo vessel design combining wind-assisted propulsion and the use of green methanol.

Innovations and Key Features

  • Dual-fuel engine: Utilization of MGO and E-Methanol for propulsion.
  • Wind-assisted propulsion: 50% of propulsion provided by Flettner rotors, enabling an average speed of 14 knots.
  • Optimized hull design: Improved aerodynamics and energy efficiency.
  • CO2 emission reduction: 70% reduction compared to the current Atlantic RoRo market.

Routes and Served Ports

  • US-EU Atlantic Line: Departures every 14 days, with regular stops in France, Spain, the United Kingdom, and the U.S. East Coast.
  • Mediterranean Line: Fixed and optional calls connecting Saint-Nazaire to major ports in Portugal, Morocco, Tunisia, and Italy.

Low Carbon West-Med line

  • Cargo : Aeronautics, Cars, Rolling High & Heavy cargo

Main deck+ 1 trailer deck: 120 trailers or 132 Mafi 40’

Opportunities for Shippers

  • Sustainability: Significant reduction in carbon footprint, benefiting both the environment and corporate reputation.
  • Reliability: Guaranteed reliability with a fixed schedule and proven punctuality (LDA RoRo track record: 97% on-time performance).
  • Stable costs: Offers freight cost stability with limited fuel price volatility

Louis Dreyfus Armateurs now invites shippers to express their interest in this new RoRo line and encourages them to be part of this sustainable revolution in maritime transport.
