Recently, the truck reached a milestone of 500,000 kilometres. This initiative aims to assess the viability of electric drives, with Volvo Trucks collaborating with Swiss company Designwerk Technologies AG on an innovation project. Together, they are focused on advancing heavy-duty electric trucks to accelerate the adoption of sustainable solutions while pushing the boundaries of technology.
The test truck, used by the Swedish Börje Jönsson Group, has achieved this impressive distance over two years, operating in everyday logistics between Helsingborg and Gothenburg in southern Sweden. The electric vehicle completes almost 1,000 kilometers per day over six days, making four stops for recharging, and on the seventh day, it operates for half the day while undergoing charging for the remainder of the time.
Commenting on the milestone, Jessica Sandström, SVP Global Product Management at Volvo Trucks, said:
''500,000 km in just two years is an amazing achievement for this electric truck. It shows that it is possible to electrify very intensive, heavy and demanding transport. It is an innovation project in which we gain valuable insights, for example about the performance of batteries. This knowledge ultimately also benefits our series trucks.”
